The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
