Followers Urge Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are calling for that a man who leaped a fence and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual version of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, securing several for outstanding attire and production design.
